TOOL SHARPENING & BASIC INLETTING

with DAVE KUTCHER & JOHN GAECKLE

Date to be announced.

10:00 am to 4:00 pm

The key to a successful rifle build is SHARP tools!

This class will focus on an often overlooked skill that is imperative to a great rifle, sharp tools! Bring your tools you plan to use and learn the proper way to sharpen & maintain them. A surprising number of people do not know how to sharpen wood working tools or sharpen them incorrectly. This class not only covers sharpening, it includes proper use of wood working tools.

Inletting is one of the most important parts of building a muzzle loading rifle and is often the difference between a success and a failure. Once this skill is mastered your project will be much more easily tackled. The instruction will focus on the different circumstances you will encounter while building a muzzle loading rifle such as inletting the barrel, inletting a lock and inlays. This class will focus on gun building but this skill will translate to almost any intricate wood working project.

Class fee is $70.00 per student.

Cedar Ridge Gas Forge Workshop

Date to be announced.

w/ Joe Seabolt & Joe McGee

Whether used for knife making, heat treating, or general blacksmithing, the heart of any top quality gas forge is a well designed and properly constructed burner. In this class, students will build an atmospheric propane burner based on Joe Seabolt and Joe McGee's improved design. This efficient unit is simpler to build than many, requires no welding to build, no electricity to run, and is readily adaptable to a wide variety of forge types. Students who participate in this class can expect to take home a fully functional burner.

As part of the class instructors will demonstrate the step by step assembly of a gas forge, utilizing the Cedar Ridge Forge Burner and an inexpensive five gallon air tank. While relatively small, this forge is well suited to knife making and general blacksmithing projects, and is capable of reaching high forge welding temperatures as well as achieving lower consistent soaking heats.

Time permitting, the instructors will assist students in the construction of their own forge tanks from their own materials.

Class fee is $375.00 per student. (Includes material fee)
